'I wish I had a friend,' Molly Garnett writes in her journal, 'a real friend with her own line, and I could just call her up and tell I'm feeling so low, so sad and alone, and she would say, Hold on, I'll be right over.'
But Molly has no one to call. Vicky, whose devotion is matched only by her cruelty, has been Molly's best friend practically from birth. But since the wayward and daring Grace arrived on Leeward Island for the summer, everything has changed.
With nobody to confide in, Molly admits what's happening only in her journal - shoplifting which makes her feel like a rebel, the strange attachment she still feels for Jason, her crush on Vicky's older brother and the torture of being torn apart by her two best friends.
